Red handed by EmptyShadow Red handed by EmptyShadow
Nobody can remain clean-handed forever with certain things they do. It's a profession to drown yourself in.

It would be really easy to just say he's an "assassin", but that may or may not be a metaphorical description.
In the past he would have been blood-lustful by going balling nuts with knives and having mindless psychotic episode, but I believe there are far more grotesque and disturbing ways humans can be without blatant violence and try-hard "evil" images of oneself. It takes beyond impulsive killing-spree or showcasing of dangerous equipment to be really more than just a repetitive "psycho".

That gets boring, because these types of characters never deal with consequences. In fact, they are pretty much done when they face it, for they were never designed to never face it for the sake of their superficial images. All they end up being is a show of blood, knives, superficial principals and drama. Afterwards they become pathetic and rather petty.

So enough of this blatant blood fest. I want to develop my characters, not with the pools of blood that they've brought, but with them drowning in it. They are no longer superficial beings with the ability to make them somehow disappear. They are beings with humane difficulties in having to decide between breathing under and drinking what they've brought upon themselves, or else succumbing to inevitable defeat. They are beings who chose to take an extreme path of life and for that they must pay a certain price. And what drives and makes them succeed at surviving on this path is what would define them.

This is probably just basics of developing decent character. I just felt like writing a long thing, haha, and maybe to give myself a simpler focus. I also want to change his image for good. He was a petty mess when I first created him, but I suppose that's a common development process.

Started out just drawing a bowl on his head. For the type of drawing this is in, it took long. Wasted first few hours trying to decide on the pose.

just saying, the character in this deviation looks a bit like his own OC argrim, and to be honest... it wouldn't surprise me if he found it and was like: "wait, i'm not an emo.." x3

I may have written something long winded for maybe at least my own entertainment when I saw this, but what you wrote yourself made whatever I could have written moot.

I'm holding your comment here as if it was a promise now... I look forward to what is coming next. <3

I like this it is good.

Everything starts out as a petty mess. The journey into something good, however, is always fun. I've had a blast developing my own characters into something presentable. At this point, I just need to find time to present it, haha. I can't wait to see what you do with yours.

Great to see you uploading again! Such a cool concept for developing your characters, and the "wasted hours" really seemed to pay off. It's almost like Kai is accepting the fact that he has taken lives, and is prepared to face the consequences. (At least, that's kind of what I'm seeing here.)
The choice of colour draws attention right where you want it too, and the blood looks incredibly realistic in it's fluidity.
Can't wait to see more wether it's illustrations or writing!

Absolutely fantastic, this mind set is perfect for developing strong characters! Goodness, you give a clear analysis of the situation and a good strong answer, your character development process will allow your characters to be polished and well rounded. (All characters start up as a petty mess, but that's because we just made them, they were empty shells asking for ideas)

Wonderful illustration! The lighting is fantastic and the pose fluid~ The colour is powerful in this picture too, bringing emphasis where you wanted it. I wish one day to be capable of something like this.

Thanks, this makes me quite happy. I actually started this drawing with the typical lighting coming from the top (because that's probably how 90% of my drawings are done), then after a lot of frustrating iterations it came to this. It looked OK to me at the time, but I am feeling more pleased by the viewer's response. I guess my frustration paid off ;)

Now my next step is to successfully show these development through actual story lines...I feel that this would be the most difficult part.

That's great to hear! It's always satisfying when something like that pays off~~

Yes That is the most difficult section, as pacing and planning are needed. (Two things a surely lack) Hee hee~ I'm sure you'll be able to do it well, considering your characters before we're well designed to begin with! Do not worry~

I dunno why exactly, but the lighting you've done from the blood bowl is damn near entrancing. It's not even that big of a thing, but it keeps be going back to the face. Lovely and simple picture.

I presume it's how the bowl glows in contrary to the rest of the figure, which is what I find interesting about bodies of liquid. They are interesting to draw.
I am pretty please with it too. It went through a lot of iteration before I decided on this one. Glad you liked it! Thanks
