Missing papers

The printer kept missing its A4 papers. And it wasn’t just anywhere around the house; it was specifically Rita’s room. She knew who the suspect was, but she couldn’t do anything about it.

“Kai!!!!” She screamed when she finally couldn’t take it anymore.

“I have a freaking essay due tomorrow and I need the paper now!!!”  

Rita loudly stomped out of her room and banged on Kai’s door. The door creaked open very slowly and only so slightly, and through that little gap was Kai peeking with his innocent eyes.

“I need” he said.

“And I need it more. What the hell are you doing with all that paper anyway?”

“Uh…write philosophies of life and death” he said as his skinny fingers slowly slid out to the edge of the door.

“That my ass. Give me the paper or else. I have to go freaking drive to the office store and buy new ones if you don’t”

“Sorry children need of diagnosis” he said.

“Alright, that’s it!!” she said and banged the door on Kai’s finger that lingered on the edge of the door before.

“Ow” he said without enthusiasm.

“Next time you better think about what’s more important; your fingers or the paper. By the way you suck at making excuses”

“Yeah I kno- Ah Rita. Finger stuck. Help” much to Rita’s surprise, the door actually closed all the way with his fingers in between the immeasurable space. The door had a dent shaped like four fingers.

This might be a good lesson, Rita thought, but even after this painful incidence, the papers kept gone missing. Eventually, after realizing that nothing’s going to stop Kai from stealing papers, Rita decided see what he was doing for herself.

“What the hell do you think he’s doing?” Rita asked Eva.

“Maybe he likes to draw” she responded.

“Wut? I draw crap on scrap papers”

“Rita, if you really want to know so badly just go ask him”

“I did, like thousand times”

“Well you are quite frightening to answer sometimes. Be a less assertive”

“Hmp. He’s totally wasting paper”

“Just tell him to use scrap papers then”

“But he won’t! He’s such a cheapskate. God!!”

On the next day, Rita decided to raid Kai’s room to find out what he was doing while he was absent.

“That little inconsiderate bastard. At least ask before he takes it, or use scrap papers…he can’t even draw that well!!!” she murmured as she scavenged through Kai’s things. Then she noticed a particular folder that had color pencils crowded near it. Inside the folder were clean white papers with drawings on it.

“Ha! I knew it, this little cheapsk-” she stopped when she realized what the drawing was.

They weren’t the best drawings in the world, but they certainly looked like he tried. A collar of flowers covered the top of the paper, and under the pictures was the text…

“Hi mommy. Sorry I didn’t write for while. I couldn’t move hand. But its okay. I miss you a lot. Don’t worry because nice people here. So don’t cry anymore. That makes me sad. Also don’t worry about not able to write. I know you sick. Just get well so you can visit me. And maybe you live here with me. Or I buy you a nice house. I miss you a lot. Love, Kai”

It wasn’t the best writing in the world either. But it made Rita realize that Kai wasn’t stealing papers for the reason she had accused him of. These papers weren’t for him; he just wanted to send nice letters to his mother, who Rita never knew before. Why hadn’t he ever talked about her? she thought, Kai and his tendency to not tell things.

Rita would have told him that these were the ugliest letters in the world. But he is on the letter, those ugly drawings and bad grammar that obviously came from him.  That’s a true letter, she thought, he should work on his grammar though, she said with a smirk.

On her leave Rita left a nice pile of clean white papers on Kai’s desk.
